Managing flexibility alongside your day-to-day operations
Flexibility can be provided by any asset that can increase or decrease generation or consumption in response to dispatch instructions issued by the FlexGO platform. Importantly, parameters and availability for participation in Flexibility Services is always determined by you through our intuitive FlexGO portal.
Flexible assets
Examples of flexible assets include, but is not limited to:
- Heat pumps or gas CHPs that can shift load depending on the heat requirements at site, with heat stores providing extra flexibility to store or draw-down heat;
- Cold storage, which could pause consumption for short periods within temperature limits or increase consumption when energy is cheapest;
- Grow lights at greenhouses or vertical farms, which could shift consumption or reduce load within allowable limits so long as it doesn’t impact crop yield;
- Water pumps or treatment processes that can increase or decrease flow rates during certain hours;
- Manufacturing and energy-intensive processes, including production of gases such as oxygen or hydrogen; and electric charge points, whether fleets or domestic, can shift their charge time or increase/decrease consumption if state of charge allows.
These are just some of the hundreds of assets across a wide range of industries that can provide energy flexibility. To date, Flexitricity has worked with customers across water, chemicals, recycling, food and drink, datacentres and others, and has identified and monetised flexibility in all of them. In the past, participation has sometimes been limited by the rigid requirements dictated by market rules and regulations. However, the market is transforming, meaning it has never been easier – or more beneficial – to participate in Flexibility Services.
